Toxic relationships have become a concerning issue among young people, particularly within the context of romantic relationships among university students. For Christian students, this issue is not only related to psychological well-being but also intersects with theological values and spiritual commitments. This study aims to explore how Christian students perceive toxic relationships in dating, how they interpret the signs of unhealthy relationships, and how their faith influences their decisions in dealing with such experiences. This research is motivated by the increasing phenomenon of toxic relationships among students, which have negative impacts on mental, social, and academic health. Using a qualitative approach and the Critical Discourse Analysis method modeled by Norman Fairclough, This study analyzes students' perceptions of unhealthy relationships and the role of Christian values in addressing this phenomenon. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 15 active students at IAKN Tarutung who had views or experiences related to toxic relationships. The results showed that most respondents understood toxic relationships as oppressive, manipulative, and contrary to the principles of love, respect, and justice in Christian teachings. This perception was shaped by personal experiences, the influence of their social environment, and the spiritual education they received. Furthermore, this study revealed that Christian values and pastoral care play a crucial role in fostering awareness of the importance of healthy and supportive relationships. This research is expected to contribute to the development of pastoral counseling services, particularly in assisting students facing psychologically and spiritually harmful relationships.
