Abstract

This study aims to understand the meaning and implementation of Marulaon nabadia (Holy Communion) as a religious means of pastoral care for the sick, and to explore participants' responses to the meaning of bread and wine as symbols of the body and blood of Christ. This study used a qualitative approach and a pastoral case study method, with six informants: two pastors, two elders (sintua), and two members of the congregation experiencing illness. The results indicate that marulaon nabadia functions not only as a liturgical sacrament, but also as a spiritual medium that presents Christ's love, forgiveness of sins, and strengthening the faith of the sick. The bread and wine in marulaon nabadia are understood not merely as symbols, but as means of God's presence that provide strength and hope. The informants stated that after receiving marulaon nabadia, they experienced inner peace, spiritual healing, and a sense of closeness to God and the church community. This service also reflects the church's active and empathetic presence in holistically accompanying sick members spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Thus, marulaon nabadia has proven to be an effective religious means in the practice of pastoral counseling for the sick.
